175 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK ''The Comte de Paris, the ship carrying French and German settlers to Akaroa, embarked on its journey to New Zealand. It had departed from the port of Rochefort on 6 March 1840, but ran aground on a sandbar. Refloated on 11th, it finally left France on 20th March. The journey was to be a rough one, and took five months'' Thank you Akaroa 365 days of the Year for this wonderful reminder of our history :)
