The world's smallest dolphin! The Hector's Dolphin (Cephalorhynchus hectori)! These guys are endemic to New Zealand waters and are often seen in the bay around Akaroa near Christchurch where I saw this guy back in 2013. They only grow to 1 metre in length and juveniles are often only the size of a football. Sadly they are endangered due to pollution and drowning in fishing nets. I hope these guys can be saved by the conservation efforts in place at the moment. They are easily identified by their distinctive "Mickey Mouse" fin. #hectorsdolphins #dolphins #cephalorhynchus #marinelife #mammal #mammalsofinstagram #endangered #newzealandwildlife #newzealand #cute
