This ancient Fur Seal was having a Nana nap on the rocks as we sailed around Akaroa Harbour, NZ and he managed to muster up enough energy for a casual wave! He was quite an old boy, probably 14+ years and would weigh in at about 140 kgs or 310lbs. (Makes me feel suddenly lighter!) In New Zealand the cute guys are called Kekeno, have pale long whiskers and two layers of fur. (Although, right now I could think of nothing worse in the middle of an Aussie summer!) These seals can dive up to 238 metres looking for their daily diet of fish, and stay under water for as long as 11 minutes. I get breathless thinking about more than a 20 seconds under water!

If you ever cruise around Akaroa Harbour on the South Island of New Zealand, be sure to wave a hello to this wonderful old guy. #traveltheworld #traveldeeper #enjoytheworld #travellersnotebook #traveladdict #travelgram #travelpic #gottolovethis #Nikonp900 #celebritysolstice #cruising #newzealand #discovernewzealand #akaroa #harbour #harbourlife #furseal #seals #flipper #fishdiet #whiskers #boomer #boomers #seniors #boomersooner #boomerstravel #emptynester #retired #travelat60 @gypsyat60
